Garden View Aged Care September Newsletter

September 2025

Welcome Message from the Director of Nursing

Dear Residents, Families, and Friends,

I am delighted to share that Garden View continues to maintain a strong 4-star rating, a reflection of the dedication of our staff and the support of our community.

In September, we held our first Food Focus Group meeting with wonderful participation from both residents and staff. Together, we discussed the menu and dining experience, and our chefs are now preparing the upcoming summer menu with valuable input from residents.

We also had the joy of celebrating Father’s Day, where we spoiled the dads with a delicious BBQ and a special magician performance, creating smiles and cherished memories.

On a broader scale, the Minister for Aged Care and Seniors has released an open letter regarding the new Aged Care Act, now deferred to commence on 1 November 2025. This extension allows providers additional time to prepare, train staff, and update systems in line with the new requirements around governance, reporting, digital systems, and the Support at Home program. The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has also developed training resources, which we will be incorporating into our staff development plans.

From 1 November 2025, the new Statement of Rights poster will be displayed on our notice board, ensuring everyone is aware of the standards and rights that guide quality aged care.

Looking ahead, we warmly welcome all residents, families, and friends to join us for a combined celebration of the Burmese Elderly and Lighting Day and the Chinese Moon Festival on Wednesday, 8 October 2025. It promises to be a meaningful and festive occasion.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support and partnership in making Garden View a welcoming and caring home for all.

Warm regards,
Nicole Zhang

Staff Spotlight

Meet Mei, Our Lifestyle Coordinator

We are delighted to shine the spotlight on our dedicated Lifestyle Coordinator, Mei. Mei joined the Garden View family in 2022, bringing with her a bubbly personality and strong professional skills in coordinating lifestyle programs that align with person-centred care.

Mei plays a key role in supporting residents, from organising day-to-day in-house activities to planning special outings and major celebrations. She has helped residents explore social life beyond the home, taking them on meaningful trips to signature locations and community events.

Her creativity has also enhanced our daily activities—introducing food variety tastings, enriching decorations, and hosting engaging events that bring joy and connection to our residents.

We are truly grateful for Mei’s dedication, enthusiasm, and the warmth she brings to our Garden View community.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Welcoming Spring with Joy and Connection

September brought sunshine, laughter, and new beginnings as we welcomed the first days of spring. Our residents enjoyed a wonderful month filled with celebrations, community visits, and joyful activities.
We started the month with a Father’s Day BBQ and a magic performance, creating smiles all around as residents enjoyed delicious food and fun entertainment.

The volunteer group also visited, spending time talking and sharing stories, which brought warmth and companionship to everyone.

One of the most touching moments was the visit from Hilltop Childcare Centre. The children’s bright energy and giggles lit up the room, and the residents were delighted to play, talk, and sing together — a beautiful reminder of the power of connection across generations.

Our “One Culture, One Table” program continued every Wednesday, offering residents a chance to experience different cuisines and celebrate cultural diversity.

With the gentle spring breeze returning, residents enjoyed park walks, feeling the sunshine and reconnecting with nature.

We also celebrated Nepalese Dashain Day, honoring our multicultural community with food, music, and dance.

To end the month, our furry friends returned for Pet Therapy, bringing happiness and comfort to all.

Spring truly bloomed in our hearts this month. 🌷
